Concept, Design & Production
I designed, hand illustrated, and developed a collection of guided reading journals created to transform reading into a more intentional, reflective, and immersive experience.
These journals were built with both functionality and emotional connection in mind to encouraging readers to not only track what they read, but to truly engage with and remember each story.
The design combines structured layouts with whimsical, hand-drawn illustrations to create a balance between organization and creativity. Each page was carefully considered to support different stages of the reading journey, including goal setting, quick reflections, in-depth reviews, reading challenges, and yearly progress tracking.
Visually, the journals reflect a cozy, cottagecore-inspired aesthetic, featuring custom line art, soft decorative motifs, and a cohesive visual language carried throughout the entire book. The layouts are intentionally clean and intuitive, allowing users to personalize their pages while still feeling guided.
Beyond the interior design, I also oversaw product development and production decisions, including material selection, print specifications, and cover design. The journals feature durable, high-quality materials such as thick interior paper and vegan leather covers with gold foil detailing—elevating the product into something that feels both practical and collectible.
This is the project closest to my heart, because I was able to combine my love for illustration, layout design, and product development into a cohesive, market-ready product. It also reflects my focus on user experience and designing with a deep understanding of how people interact with and emotionally connect to physical products.
The reading journal was incredibly well received, quickly becoming a favorite among readers who loved its blend of structure and creativity. In response, I developed an expanded edition, The Expanded Reading Journal, featuring additional layouts, more detailed illustrations, and enhanced tracking pages—designed specifically for avid readers who wanted an even richer, more immersive journaling experience.
